Marc Cabir Davis I consider this to be in the Top 10 world music albums of all time, easily sitting next to Peter Gabriel's soundtrack to The Passion of the Christ. To state that this is an essential purchase is an understatement. Possibly Noa's greatest album, and we are glad it's now available for purchase. Highly recommended. Favorite track: Mushrooms (Pitriot).

about

This album was my first attempt at lyric writing in Hebrew, all original, without leaning on the strong pillars of fine poetry. All the songs were written, arranged and produced in Israel by Gil and myself with the exception of "Aval Ahava" ("But Love") that is a poem by Meir Vizeltier to which we wrote music. We also added "Niga el Hachalom" ("To Touch the Dream") by Shalom Hanoch, a song we recorded in memory of our assassinated Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin. The song "Boker", which appears on our new album "Blue Touches Blue", appears here in its original version, as does "On and On", in its Hebrew version. It was released only in Israel but has since been "smuggled" across the border to fans all over the world, who couldn’t wait for the next international release... It’s a beautiful album we’re very proud of, and I really think it was the stem from which "Blue Touches Blue" eventually blossomed.

Track Name: If Not You (Im Ein At)
Translation by Noa:

what is broken or ready to break
who is asleep and who stays awake
who lives with all of memory's ache?

who has gone and who stayed still
who looked back, and who never will
who is empty, who can fill?

who is blind and who reflects
who has sworn and who defects
who can sleep and who protects?

who has made it all so clear
who has lost and who will cheer
who kept still, erased the tear?

if not you,
who will do?
who will do for you, if not you?

be strong, be strong!!
lift your chin up high!
that way your tears go no further than your cheek..
take care, take care
of the thunder in your sky!
the spark in your eye
always keep!

if not you,
who will do?
who will do for you, if not you?
never soft or tender,
no brother or mender will render your fall without pain
if not you,
who will do?
if not you,
who?
Track Name: You're Far Away From Me (At Rechoka Mimeni)
Translation by Noa:

you're far away from me
and we don't talk enough
here at home everything's the same
just empty, and its tough

you're far away from me
and missing in our room
here at home time stands in his corner
silent as a tomb

the world's an open window
the wold is big and you're so small
what awaits you, what do you see
when you're far away from me?

you don't stop for a minute
you're always running fast
no time to talk to me right now,
'cause its a quarter past!

you're far away from me
our room is not the same
by chance I heard the radio today
mention your name

the world's an open window
the wold is big and you're so small
what awaits you, what do you see
when you're far away from me?

you never calm down,
can the horizon promise you be free?
what awaits you when you're far away from me?
Track Name: Mushrooms (Pitriot)
Translation by Noa:

sometimes I am pitted and bare
like a small bookstore after a fire
I know I'll find no harbor there
the stormy waves keep getting higher

sometimes I am washed of color
like a drawing on the sidewalk after rain
and I know the time is right now
to give birth to words again

Big Mushroom over the city
police are running tests
Little Mushroom
she was found
squeezed in with all the rest

sometimes there is no road
like the Day of Atonement in a car
and everything looks different with
a broken heart

Big Mushroom over the city
police are running tests
Little Mushroom
she was found
squeezed in with all the rest

Sometimes I am numb of anger
like the Square where memory will wane
and I try to find comfort in written words
for this burning pain

Big Mushroom over the city
police are running tests
Little Mushroom
she was found
squeezed in with all the rest

Big Mushroom over the city
who's to tell the futures course?
Little Mushroom
she was found
far away from the forest.
Track Name: Millimeter
Translation by Noa:

there is no space
in the millimeter between me and you
and the light turns suddenly blue

in the millimeter between you and me
I can see
a snapshot of an orange childhood

and you told me, come, come close
look at the sun setting into the sea
and you told me come, come close
the millimeter between them both
holds all of the dreams in the world

in the kilometer between me and you
no flowers bloom
and a cold white light fills the room

a speedometer with broken arms
cannot supply
the numbers that I need to fly

and you told me, come, come close
look at the sun setting into the sea
and you told me come, come close
the millimeter between them both
holds all of the dreams in the world

in the millimeter between pen and page
nothing's new
the same old soul I've had for years
I give to you

the millimeter 'bove the brow
cannot hide
the vast and hollow space
inside

Translation by Noa:

come, my love, to the small living-room
to tango with me
come, my love
I'll put on some disc
doesn't matter which, as long as were moving
moving

we'll move together, sway, move together
we'll move together..

come, my love, to the old kitchen
the fridge has been humming to us for four years now..
it's his own little tune about cream-cheese
you know, he's not out of order..
like us, he's just stuck.

we'll move together, sway, move together
we'll move together..

lets pack and fly to Japan for a year or a week or a ride!
o.k., then instead lets just open the window
and let the wind inside..

come, my love, to the big bed
we'll fold laundry
and tell each other silly things
about our day, our bank account,
the news we hear,
our dreams, our fear..

and we'll move together, sway, move together,
move together, gently move ?

nanua, nanua, nanua?
Track Name: But Love (Aval Ahava)
Translation by Noa:

love I sing I say love
love I hear I give love
morning eyes light love
delicious kiss thanks love
sweet little girl love
sweet big girl love
beautiful new blouse love
what a wonderful smell love
who is knocking at the door here for sure love
sometimes I'm afraid but love
Track Name: The Snail (Shablul)
Translation by Noa:

It's hard to be a snail
who wants to hit the trail
but when your house is on your tail
it's hard to see!

he hides from people, too
as snails will always do
and only children's nursery tunes
can set him free.

he sees a falling leaf
a flower opened wide
he wishes he were different!
but all he does is hide.
the silence all around
reminds him of the sea
I'll go so far with you!
but will you wait for me?

It's hard to be a snail
who wants to hit the trail
but when your house is on your tail
it's such a bummer!

open spaces are a thrill
and his feelers make him ill
is this temporary, will
it fade with summer?

he sees a falling leaf
a flower opened wide
he wishes he were different!
but all he does is hide.
the silence all around
reminds him of the sea
I'll go so far with you!
but will you wait for me?

It's hard to be a snail
who wants to hit the trail
but when your house is on your tail
it's hard to see!

he hides from people, too
as snails will always do
and only children's nursery tunes
can set him free.
Track Name: Expanding in the Light (Mitrachev Ba'or)
Translation by Noa:

between your lashes
I plant flowers all through the night
and your breathing
like tiny gusts of north-wind

translucent brown
etched with strands of night
translucent brown
expanding in the light

together
outside a tiny street is sleeping, so unquiet
and fear
rolls down the steep slopes of my dreams

translucent brown
etched with strands of night
translucent brown
expanding in the light

morning
my hair like waves all around us
and you and I
between blanket mountains and sheets of mist

translucent brown
etched with strands of night
translucent brown
expanding in the light

expanding in the light,
touching without hands
waking up to me
he finds, he understands.

expanding in the light.

Translation by Noa:

monday morning, and you tell me:
waking up beside you is living in style
i feel the sun caressing, softly through the shades, and
for no particular reason, i think i'm gonna smile!

wake up, sweety, wake up!
(that's just what you tell me)
sleepy, sleepyhead,
your eyes are still afloat
and the radio carries on in the holy language
about a million traffic jams from rishon to ganot

there's a little song playing as the day begins
bright and clear
any minute now the news
god i hope today we'll hear
good morning, good morning, yeah..

listen, i've decided
(that's just what you tell me)
both of us are going, but not to work, hurrah!
we could check the water level of the sea of galilee
or make a run for chocolate-milk
down in yotvata

there's a little song playing as the day begins
bright and clear
any minute now the news
god i hope today we'll hear
good morning, good morning

let's take the dusty 'charade'
our heartache and longing still stuck on her glass
we can take it slowly, for history's before us
what good would it do us to speed by the past?

there's a little song playing as the day begins
bright and clear
any minute now the news
god i hope today we'll hear
good morning, good morning, yeah!

good morning!

Translation by Noa:

now its gone
now its passed
on the edge of a dream we linger..
how
the sands of time
have slipped between my fingers

now its gone
now its passed
forever, it appears..
a circle
that's been closed
and I'm still alive, still here

we shall meet
and see each other
for a loving heart can not go wrong
like rivers to the sea
we flow, we stream
strive till we arrive
to touch the dream.
